Who is Annastacia Palaszczuk's partner? Meet the high-flying doctor supporting the Queensland premie

The departing Queensland premier is set to enjoy her retirement in luxury with her high-flying weight loss doctor boyfriend in his multi-million dollar mansion.

Annastacia Palaszczuk will have plenty of time to spend with her partner Dr Reza Adib after announcing on Sunday she was stepping down as premier.

The couple have been dating for more than two years with Dr Adib a well-known surgeon, CEO of Brisbane Obesity Clinic and owner of a $6.25million mansion.

He purchased the five-bedroom, five-bathroom half-acre estate in Indooroopilly in December 2010.

The luxury property comes with an infinity pool and overlooks Brisbane River.

The property listing describes the mansion as a 'lavishly regal home [and] the absolute pinnacle of building construction and design'.

The home was inspired by traditional 14th century Italian villas and features towering arches, courtyards and mammoth stone pillars that circle the outdoor arena.

A Vaulted Fresco stares down from a dome in the ultra-high ceiling which was painted by Rodney Surawski, who has also done mural designs in royal homes.

'One of the first truly authentic Mediterranean style homes constructed in Brisbane, this expansive estate proudly stands on more than half an acre of some of the most prized riverfront land in Brisbane,' the listing read.

'You are enchanted and captivated just by its sheer presence. With towering arches, charming courtyards surrounded by terraced gardens and the mammoth stone pillars that circle the outdoor arena which captures the panoramic river and mountain views in all their glory, you can’t possibly take it all in.

'This is your chance to live the life of luxury in one of the most magnificently crafted and designed homes you will find anywhere in Brisbane.'

Ms Palaszczuk, 52, went public with her relationship on September 3, 2021, ending months of speculation the pair were dating.

The premier, who was steering her state through the Covid pandemic when she first confirmed the relationship, described Dr Adib as a 'gorgeous man'.

The couple were first spotted together at the Caloundra Cup at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on July 11, 2021 and endured multiple scandals during Ms Palaszczuk's tumultuous time in office before the premier announced her resignation on Sunday.

Ms Palaszczuk had been highly secretive about her personal life which she said was almost non-existent because of her busy schedule as premier.

'It's simply not true that we all need a partner to be fulfilled,' she said in 2019

'It's lovely when it's the right person of course, but it is very possible to be single and very happy.'

She was first spotted with Dr Adib at the Caloundra Cup at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on July 11, 2021 and her chief of staff initially dismissed rumours of a romance.

However, in August 2021 she unveiled a glamorous makeover during one of her daily Covid press conferences, raising speculation there had been other changes in her private life.

She finally confirmed that she was committed to Dr Adib to the Courier Mail early in the following month.

'He is a very warm and caring, intelligent man with a great sense of humour, and we are just enjoying getting to know each other,' the premier said at the time.

'We make time when we can to see each other, it’s not easy, but when we do see each other we like to go out to dinner and go on long walks, and what has been nice for me is that he also makes me take a break from work every now and again.'

In 2022 the couple were often spotted together with Ms Palaszczuk facing a wave of backlash from critics.

She was accused of being out of touch for her frequent red carpet appearances with Dr Adib, including at Baz Luhrmann's Elvis premiere and the 2022 Logie awards.

The premier also had to apologise after inviting him to a private meeting with senior members of the International Olympic Committee in May, 2022.

Dr Adib is the CEO of Brisbane Obesity Clinic. A general and laparoscopic surgeon, he began his career at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 1994 and established the Brisbane Obesity Clinic in 2004

'I appreciate that there have been views expressed about this catch-up,' she said.

'I recognise that I have made a mistake, and I should not have taken my partner to that meeting.'

The premier was slammed again when she cancelled a cabinet meeting to spend time with Dr Abid on a luxury yacht instead in the same year.

In August 2023, the pair took an official holiday to Italy, with the tranquil vacation interrupted by paparazzi who tracked the pair down in Naples.

In a statement on social media at the time, Ms Palaszczuk asked the media to respect her privacy while she was on leave for two weeks.

'I am on leave. Everyone is entitled to leave,' she said.

Ms Palaszczuk referenced the Italy trip during her resignation speech on Sunday as the final straw which prompted the move to resign.

'I turned my mind to this when I was trying to have a holiday with my partner, and everyone deserves a break,' she said.

Ms Palaszczuk has previously spoken of her unfulfilled desire to have children, which she attributed to suffering from endometriosis, a debilitating condition which can impact fertility.

Her severe case of endometriosis was diagnosed after a miscarriage with her second husband Simon Every, following an exploratory laparoscopy.

Brisbane Obesity Clinic's website boasts Dr Adib has performed more than 20,000 operations and more than over 5000 weight-loss procedures.

'Dr Adib has studied in Australia, England, Scotland, France and Austria,' the website states.

'This broad international background puts him in a unique position to understand and treat a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds and environments.

'Our patients travel from all over Australia to be under Dr Adib's quality care, knowing they will achieve the best results.'

Dr Adib does not have a strong social media presence and had rarely been in the news prior to his relationship with Ms Palaszczuk.

Ms Palaszczuk, who had lived in a relatively humble home in Brisbane's south-west, was married to journalist George Megalogenis from 1996 to 1998 and Simon Every from 2004 to 2009.

She has spoken candidly of how the breakdown of her marriage to Mr Every - former chief of staff to onetime Labor senator Joe Ludwig - came after years of unsuccessful rounds of IVF treatment.

Ms Palaszczuk announced in February 2018 her split from partner of three years Shaun Drabsch, an infrastructure adviser who previously worked for Labor premier Peter Beattie.
